In Memoriam: Ian Bulbenko - Jake Gnasso – April Townsend

The JBHS VMA family suffered a tragic loss last week. The heartwarming outpouring of love and support from Burbank and our show choir communities across the country, is comforting and reassuring at this sad time. From the candlelight service in front of the school, to the photos, videos and memories circulating on social media, we have all helped ensure that Ian, Jake and April will not be forgotten. We will keep them dear in our hearts and their families in our thoughts as we hold each other close in the days and weeks ahead.

Jake, Ian, and April

Powerhouse Performs on Dancing With the Stars

The JBHS Vocal Music Associations' premier mixed show choir, Powerhouse, gave a stunning performance for tonight's Dancing With The Stars. ABC's own press release says the following:

This week's "School of Rock" themed Macy's Stars of Dance performance will feature all-star kid musicians from national School of Rock and one of the best showchoirs in the country, The Powerhouse Choir from John Burroughs High School in Burbank, California. The number will be choreographed by Travis Wall. The Powerhouse Choir has performed opposite the cast of "Glee" on the Oprah Winfrey Show and was the school that inspired the hit fox television series. In addition, they've performed at numerous national and regional events, including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art for the Gala Opening of the Resnick Pavilion, "The Unmasking," opposite Christina Aguilera and The Canadian Tenors, the Season 2 "Glee" Cast Premier Party at Paramount Studios and the 1st Annual PFLAG L.A. Event at the London Hotel. They've received the following awards and accolades: 2009 Grand Champions of FAME National Showchoir Cup in NYC; 2008 Grand Champions of FAME Chicago National Showchoir Competition; they were featured on "Gleeful: The Real Show Choirs of America," a British documentary about competitive showchoirs; and they performed in concert with Foreigner at the Gibson Amphitheater and the Citizen's Bank Arena.

PFLAG LA Event

On Friday, October 1st, Powerhouse performed on the rooftop of the London Hotel in West Hollywood for the 1st Annual “LA Event” hosted by PFLAG (Parents, Friends and Family of Lesbians and Gays).
